Best Bookkeeping Courses Online: The Best Courses to Launch Your New Path

As I was writing about how to be a bookkeeper, I thought it would be best to write about the courses available online separately. I don’t like making my posts too long, but I want to provide you with as much information as possible that is useful and relevant. Therefore, we are here to take a look at the best bookkeeping courses online.

A note that I want to make, my goal has and will always be to be upfront with you. I will not promote something that I know nothing about or have not done some serious research on. That being said, we are going to do this post a little differently.

I am going to personally dive into three bookkeeping courses that I have knowledge of and have talked to those who have taken the courses. Then I will refer you to others who have suggestions on other courses, so you have plenty of options to explore, and you can decide which one will serve you the best.

60 Day Bookkeeper by Robin (Jenny) Buckallew

We reached out to other bookkeepers who were running their own bookkeeping business and asked what courses they took and whether it was worth it. This was one of them.

The price was appealing compared to other courses sitting at around $1,200 for the entire course. She has split her course up should you only need part of what she is teaching. For example, if you are good at the bookkeeping side of things but need help knowing how to market your business, then you can take the marketing part of her course and save money.

This course is designed for those who have the desire to start their own bookkeeping business as well as the other two we are going to go over. So if you aren’t interested in starting your own business, then I would say that these three options are not for you and you need to skip down to the “other options” section.

Many who have taken her course are really pleased with the wealth of information and the guidance on starting your business, marketing, and the bookkeeping skills she teaches.

She has a free Facebook group that you can go to and ask questions if you want to learn more and a free Facebook group that is just for students who take her course. There is so much value in just being able to get others’ insight on what works for them and what mistakes to avoid.

Plus this program is self-paced, and once you pay, you get access to everything at once. There is no certification at the end of her course so you will have to decide if that is a non-starter for you or not. Another thing to note is the refund policy; you only have 14 days to decide whether or not you like it and be able to get a 100% refund.

Here is an interview that was done with the maker of 60 Day Bookkeeper on the Bookkeeping Side Hustle

Have Your Cake And Eat It Too

Now my knowledge of this course is based on others’ experience with it and what my research turned up. Many bookkeepers love this course as well. She has quite a few courses available to you for a price as little as $6 to $8,000! The $8,000 is access to EVERYTHING so you decide.

Again this is self-paced for those who are looking to start their own business and does NOT end with certification (if that is important to you, you do what works for you). I couldn’t find anything about a refund policy, so if you are looking into this and are on the fence, you might want to dig a little deeper.

I have heard great things from those who have taken some of her courses. Those who have implemented what she is teaching and have seen success. She offers a free Facebook group as well for those interested, but there is a membership fee for the “insider” Facebook group. Like I said before there is value in having access to others’ experiences and knowledge as they are on the same path as you. So again you have to decide how much you are willing to invest and if this is worth it to you.

Bookkeeper Business Launch

Now this one I hear about all the time, Ben Robinson has been around a little longer while the previous two I have mentioned have been operating their courses for a shorter time frame. Robin Buckallew and Tiffany Higgins have been operating their own bookkeeping business for a lot longer but then decided to share their know-how with others.

Bookkeeper Launch also has several courses available for you to take depending on where you are at in your bookkeeping business journey; the lowest being $97. However, the courses that you would most likely be looking at are sitting in that couple thousand dollar range. The starter course, Bookkeeper Launch, is $2,500, and that also has three tiers; Pro, Premier, and Team (price varies between the three).

This is a very popular course, and many have had great success with it and put their whole support behind it. They offer monthly payment options if you want to take it but can’t do the full amount at once (they do charge more to do so, however). Under their terms & conditions page, they offer a “30-day, unconditional 100% satisfaction guarantee” for SELECT courses. So you need to understand that certain courses do not fall under this refund policy.

The creator of Bookkeeping Side Hustle took this course and stands by it. See her post here

Now, this course stands apart from the others mentioned because Bookkeeper Launch DOES offer a certification of completion at the end of the course.

Other Options

The three we have mentioned here are not your only options for pursuing a bookkeeping career. However, my knowledge and ability to personally account for courses end here. I know that everyone is different and therefore how you want to pursue bookkeeping will be different as well. Whether that’s starting your own business, wanting to change jobs/careers and work for someone else, or even wanting to further your knowledge of bookkeeping to advance (if you are already in the bookkeeping realm).

So here are other writers who presented other bookkeeping courses available online to you:

Skillscouter

Lewis Keegan offers a wide variety of courses that are available to you some even free such as Accounting Coach. He gives you a rundown on each and what level they are.

Beginner Bookkeeping

Sarah talks about ten free bookkeeping courses, should you want to start but don’t have the funds to invest in these other courses. Again Accounting Coach makes an appearance, and while I don’t have any personal knowledge of it, it is another one that is highly recommended among bookkeepers and definitely low cost: there is a free course available as well as a “pro” version that you would have to pay for.

CPA Accounting Institute for Success

Kenneth only runs through four courses, however, each of these courses provides you with a certification once you have completed it. Just as a reminder, you don’t need a degree or certification to work as a bookkeeper. On the flip side, if you want to advance your career, seek a promotion, or provide your bookkeeping business with some credibility, then you will want to give these courses and any others that provide certification a good look.

College Certification Courses

Most community colleges and universities offer either a certification course for bookkeepers or classes. They can be as short as 6-8 weeks or even a year depending on the course and how they have it structured. Some colleges also offer these courses online or as self-paced. Take a look at your local college but also don’t be afraid to branch out to bigger universities because like I said, they might have an online option available.

Prices will also vary, but you are looking at investing about as much as you would in some of these other more expensive courses. However, you won’t get the marketing aspect from the college setting; just how to keep the books and how some businesses might be set up. Something to keep in mind when you are trying to decide which course or path is right for you.

Wrap up

Before deciding which is right for you, ask around. Connect with other bookkeepers and find what works for them. Don’t just take my word or the word of these other writers that I have mentioned, do your own research. Only you know where you want to take this and how far so you are the best person to decide which course will help you get there. If you want to know more about how to become a bookkeeper then click to see my run down the how and why.

Happy researching!
