Onward down the oil pathway… today we will be talking about Frankincense. This little oil is odd to me, it is very valuable and is a great booster to any oil but on its own Frankincense has very specific purposes. In a post here, I talked about its role when my husband had cancer and had to undergo chemotherapy. But for this post, we are looking at the benefits Frankincense offers to our little ones

Frankincense: all natural pain killer

Frankincense is my go-to when one of my little ones is teething. I don’t like to use Tylenol too much just for the simple fact that it is a drug and I don’t want to overuse it. On the other hand, two of my three kids experienced severe teething pain and they needed relief.

Since Frankincense is safe for NEAT application, undiluted, you can just dab a little on your finger and rub on your little ones gums.

Until a child is about 18 months to two years old, it probably feels like they are teething pretty regularly so adding Frankincense to your morning and bedtime routine can take the guess work out plus you maximize the oils benefits by using it frequently.

In order to get the full benefit of Frankincense, it is best to focus on frequency of use.

“Frequency trumps quantity” (The Essential Life, p.421) Why is this worth mentioning? Oils do not operate like drugs in the sense that increasing the dose increases the benefits. While oils can be fast acting in order to reap the full benefit of the oil you must use it regularly preferably in small doses.

That is why I mentioned earlier once you notice your child chomping at his/her gums, add Frankincense to your routine at least twice a day.

Using the oil regularly increases its potency, essential oils were not designed for a “take it once and BAM! you are cured” model. If you have chronic headaches, adding the corresponding oils to your regime can keep them away. Arthritis? Daily use can significantly reduce the pain.

Keep in mind that it is the frequency of your use in small doses that maximize your results not and I repeat NOT quantity. Increases the quantity over a period of time can actually have harmful side effects instead of helping. Remember too much of a good thing can have a turn for the worse.

Swinging back, other oils to pair with Frankincense.

If your child experiences other symptoms that come with teething like fever, an ear ache or trouble sleeping; grab that Peppermint, Lavender, and Melaleuca to ease the pain.

Peppermint and Lavender will help with the fever, alternate putting the oil on the back of the neck every hour or so. Dilute with fractionated coconut oil either in your hands, roll bottle, or a spray bottle then apply.

Melaleuca with help with the ear ache, again just dilute with F. coconut oil and apply to the back of the ears.

I am partial to putting my essential oil/carrier oil mixture in a roll-on bottle like this one or a spray bottle like this. Dilute with fractionated coconut oil, see dilution chart. Fractionated coconut oil is a great carrier oil it hydrates the skin, odorless, colorless and best of all doesn’t leave behind that greasy feeling because who likes that? Not this lady!

Other benefits

Frankincense is also great immune-stimulant so if you struggle with your immune system like I do, you can add a drop or two to your morning drink like tea or juice.

I wouldn’t recommend milk or coffee though, I have not personally tried that but to me they are not good bed fellows, EEK! Or if you aren’t feeling the drops you can always put it in capsule form and take it like a pill. Take the shudders out of drinking it.

It is said to be great for wound healing, scars and stretch marks. Personally, I haven’t tried this myself hmmm… NEXT EXPERIMENT!!! So check back and we will see what happens because good gracious do I have stretch marks from having my two boys haha. I look like an oddly colored tiger with all my stretch marks!

Frankincense, safe for aromatic, topical, and internal use also safe for NEAT application (undiluted).

Essential oils are a great alternative; you save on medical bills, hardly any side effects, and essentially help your body to what it is supposed to do; to function at optimal level.
