OH Melaleuca! Oh how I love thee! Let me count the ways… too much?

Odd I know but I find myself running out of this oil before I turn around. It’s an antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, AND antiviral. Melaleuca is fabulous! It’s great for ear aches/infections.

During those times my boys were teething they also would get ear aches that would make them even more miserable. Dab a little Melaleuca behind the ear and before I could count to 60 they were off again on another adventure.

Melaleuca: great for preventative measures

Misery loves company and certainly the same can be said when a virus or illness has found its in the house. Therefore, when I sense a sickness lurking, I start putting Melaleuca on the back of the neck to help their bodies kick it before it starts swinging full force.

Ear ache or infection for my husband or me? I put a drop or two on a cotton ball and put the cotton ball in the ear. To secure the cotton ball, I apply tape so it will stay and then take a nap or go to bed for the night. Poof! All better in the morning.

Is it really that simple?

As I am writing this I think, “people are going to think I am crazy or lying or both!”

But I write about the oils that I have an experience with and would never want to lead you astray, just like I wouldn’t want others to do the same to me! If I am going to invest money into something, I want it to work!

Is Melaleuca a miracle cure? Yea…. no, it’s not. The point of essential oils is to give your body the resources it needs to function as close to 100% as possible.

Background on Melaleuca

Melaleuca also known as Tea Tree oil is safe to use aromatically, topically, or internally and is great by itself but you can get a boost by combining it with other oils or blends depending on your needs. For more details you are welcome to buy the book, The Essential Life or go to doterra.com.

This particular oil is safe for NEAT application, without dilution. On the other hand there are perks to diluting anyway.

The benefit to diluting is that you can make the oils last without diminishing the oils fragrance or properties as well as increasing topical oil distribution (doterra.com). Oils applied undiluted can evaporate too quickly before it is properly absorbed therefore you could potentially diminish the benefits. Just a tidbit for you I use this brand of carrier oil. It’s great because it comes with a pump and a squirt lid.

I am partial to putting my essential oil/carrier oil mixture in a roll-on bottle like this one or a spray bottle like this. Dilute with fractionated coconut oil, see dilution chart. Fractionated coconut oil is a great carrier oil it hydrates the skin, odorless, colorless and best of all doesn’t leave behind that greasy feeling because who likes that? Not this lady!

If you have to use Melaleuca over an extended period of time, there is a rule I would like you to keep in mind:

“Frequency trumps quantity” (The Essential Life, p.421) Why is this worth mentioning? Oils do not operate like drugs in the sense that increasing the dose increases the benefits. While oils can be fast acting in order to reap the full benefit of the oil you must use it regularly preferably in small doses.

Keep in mind that it is the frequency of your use in small doses that maximize your results not and I repeat NOT quantity. Increases the quantity over a period of time can actually have harmful side effects instead of helping. Remember too much of a good thing can have a turn for the worse.

Any thoughts? I would love to hear from you, drop me a comment or message!
